Spain’s Digital Nomad Residency, formally known as the International Teleworker route, is designed for eligible non-EU nationals who wish to live in Spain while carrying out remote employment or professional activity for companies or clients established outside Spain.
It is suitable for remote employees, freelancers, consultants, and online business professionals whose work can be performed entirely through computer, telematics, and telecommunications systems.

• Freelancers and consultants with an established remote professional relationship
• Families seeking a European lifestyle while maintaining income from abroad
KEY ELIGIBILITY PRINCIPLES
Applicants must demonstrate a genuine and ongoing employment or professional relationship with a foreign company or client, normally maintained for at least three months before the application. The remote role must be suitable for online performance, and applicants must generally hold a university degree, recognised professional qualification, or at least three years of relevant professional experience.
For employees, the work must be carried out for an employer located outside Spain. Self-employed applicants may work with Spanish clients only where this activity does not exceed 20% of their total professional activity.
FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must prove stable employment income and sufficient financial means. The principal applicant is generally required to demonstrate income equivalent to at least 200% of Spain’s monthly minimum wage. Additional financial capacity is required for accompanying family members.
SOCIAL SECURITY AND HEALTH COVERAGE
Applicants must arrange compliant social security coverage in Spain, unless valid coverage can be maintained under an applicable international social-security agreement. Appropriate public or qualifying private health coverage is also required.
FAMILY MEMBERS
Eligible family members may include a spouse or qualifying partner, dependent children, and dependent parents. Family applications may be submitted together with, or after, the main applicant’s application. Eligible family members who receive residence authorisation may work in Spain.
APPLICATION ROUTES
Applicants applying from outside Spain normally apply for an International Teleworker Visa through the relevant Spanish Consulate. This visa is generally valid for one year.
Applicants who are legally present in Spain may be eligible to apply for a residence authorisation directly in Spain, which may be granted for up to three years.

It is a suitable option for financially independent individuals and families seeking a long-term Mediterranean lifestyle without undertaking employment or professional activity in Spain.
This residence route is not a work permit. It does not permit local employment, self-employment, professional services, or remote/online work. Applicants intending to continue remote employment should instead consider Spain’s Digital Nomad Residency.

FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial means to cover their living and residence expenses without working.
For 2026, the minimum financial benchmark is:
• Main applicant: €2,400 per month / €28,800 for the first year
• Each accompanying family member: an additional €600 per month / €7,200 for the first year
The final assessment depends on the evidence provided, including the stability, origin, availability, and accessibility of the applicant’s financial resources.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are generally required to provide:
• A valid passport
• Proof of sufficient financial means
• Private or public health insurance valid in Spain
• Criminal-record certificates from relevant countries of residence
• A medical certificate
• Official application forms and supporting civil-status documents
• Certified Spanish translations and legalisation or apostille of foreign public documents where required
FAMILY MEMBERS
Eligible family members may apply with the main applicant, including a spouse or qualifying partner, dependent children, and dependent parents who form part of the family unit. Additional financial means must be demonstrated for each accompanying family member.
VALIDITY AND RENEWAL
The initial residence authorisation is granted for one year from entry into Spain. Subject to continued compliance with the applicable conditions, it may be renewed for a further two years.
