Overview

Explore Lisbon, Sintra, Fátima, Coimbra, Porto, the Douro Valley, Aveiro, Nazaré and Óbidos on a six-day private Portugal tour.

Discover Portugal from Lisbon’s historic neighbourhoods to Porto and the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley on a six-day private journey with an exclusive certified driver-guide and Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

The itinerary combines Lisbon, Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Cascais, Estoril, Fátima, Coimbra, Porto, Amarante, Peso da Régua, Pinhão, Aveiro, Alcobaça, Nazaré and Óbidos. Touring generally begins around 09:00 and can operate for up to eight hours daily. The official operator describes the programme as private, exclusive, customisable and available daily.

Several parts of the route contain UNESCO World Heritage properties, including the Belém monuments in Lisbon, the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, Porto’s historic centre, the Alto Douro Wine Region and the Monastery of Alcobaça.

Begin with Lisbon’s historic districts, riverfront monuments, viewpoints and modern Park of Nations. Continue to Sintra’s romantic cultural landscape before visiting Cabo da Roca and the coastal communities of Cascais and Estoril.

The route then travels north through Fátima and Coimbra to Porto. Explore Porto’s historic centre, riverside districts and architectural landmarks before spending a full day in the Douro Valley, travelling through Amarante, Peso da Régua and Pinhão.

The final day returns south through Aveiro, Alcobaça, Nazaré and medieval Óbidos before concluding in Lisbon.

A certified professional driver-guide accompanies the group throughout the programme and joins visits where parking and local traffic rules permit. In restricted areas, the driver-guide may arrange a drop-off and later collection point.

Schedule Details

Day 1: Private Lisbon City Tour

Meet the certified driver-guide at the agreed Lisbon location at approximately 09:00.

Begin in the Park of Nations, the modern riverfront district developed around Expo 98. Continue into Lisbon’s historic centre, exploring Alfama and Baixa Pombalina.

Travel through Eduardo VII Park before reaching Belém, where the programme introduces the riverside monuments and Portugal’s maritime heritage. The Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower form a UNESCO World Heritage property, but interior admission is not included in the base tour.

Continue through Chiado and Bairro Alto before returning to the agreed Lisbon location.

Overnight: Lisbon, arranged and paid by the traveller
Meals: Excluded
Entrance tickets: Excluded
Touring: Up to eight hours

Day 2: Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Cascais and Estoril

Depart Lisbon for Sintra.

A visit to Queluz Palace may be added as an optional stop. Continue to Sintra and explore the town and its surrounding landscape. The exact palace or monument visited must be confirmed because the standard private-tour price excludes admission tickets.

Sintra’s villas, palaces, gardens and wooded hills form a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape.

Stop for lunch at the traveller’s expense before continuing to Cabo da Roca. Travel along the Atlantic coastline to Boca do Inferno, Cascais and Estoril before returning to Lisbon.

Overnight: Lisbon, arranged separately
Meals: Excluded
Optional: Queluz Palace and Sintra monument admission
Entrance tickets: Excluded

Day 3: Lisbon, Fátima, Coimbra and Porto

Depart Lisbon and travel north towards Fátima.

Visit the sanctuary area according to the agreed programme, then stop for lunch at the traveller’s expense.

Continue to Coimbra, a historic university city. The exact city route and any admission to the University of Coimbra require confirmation.

Proceed to Porto and conclude the day at the traveller’s selected hotel or agreed city location.

Overnight: Porto, arranged separately
Meals: Excluded
Entrance tickets: Excluded
Route: Lisbon–Fátima–Coimbra–Porto

Day 4: Private Porto City Tour

Begin with a panoramic introduction to Porto.

The supplier’s proposed route features Clérigos Tower, Livraria Lello, Carmo Church, Avenida dos Aliados, Bolhão Market, Rua de Santa Catarina, Café Majestic, São Bento Station, Porto Cathedral and Vila Nova de Gaia.

Bolhão Market should no longer be described as closed; it reopened after restoration in September 2022.

Porto’s historic centre, Dom Luís I Bridge and Serra do Pilar form a UNESCO World Heritage property representing an urban landscape with approximately two millennia of development.

An optional Rabelo boat trip and Port-wine tasting may be added.

Overnight: Porto, arranged separately
Meals: Excluded
Entrance tickets: Excluded
Optional: Douro boat tour and Port-wine tasting

Day 5: Douro Valley

Leave Porto for a full-day journey through the Douro region.

Visit Amarante before continuing towards Peso da Régua and Pinhão. Travel through the terraced wine landscape and stop at a supplier-confirmed winery.

The official itinerary lists a winery visit and wine tasting. Because tasting costs are not clearly identified under formal inclusions, confirm whether payment is included or required locally.

The Alto Douro Wine Region is recognised by UNESCO for a wine-producing tradition extending over many centuries and a landscape shaped by terraces, vineyards, settlements and winemaking activity.

Return to Porto after the programme.

Overnight: Porto, arranged separately
Meals: Excluded
Winery tasting: Supplier confirmation required
Entrance fees: Excluded unless stated otherwise

Day 6: Porto, Aveiro, Alcobaça, Nazaré, Óbidos and Lisbon

Depart Porto and travel south to Aveiro, known for its canals and colourful traditional boats.

Continue to the Monastery of Alcobaça. The monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage property, but its entrance ticket is excluded from the standard private-tour price.

Travel to Nazaré for Atlantic coastal views and local fishing heritage before continuing to Óbidos. Walk through the medieval walled town according to the available touring time.

Return to Lisbon and conclude the private tour at the agreed location.

Meals: Excluded
Entrance tickets: Excluded
End point: Lisbon
Operational note: Confirm whether the complete route fits the standard eight-hour service or requires an additional-hours supplement.
